FH: Green Initiative for Vocational Schools Deserves Praise

FH sends green accolades to the government for providing a much-needed boost to vocational education programs that play a crucial role in the green transition.

ocational education deserves much more recognition and focus. Therefore, it is great that we can collectively celebrate them and all the young people pursuing vocational education next year at EuroSkills in Herning," says Nanna Højlund.

The government has just launched a green initiative for vocational schools, highlighting how a portion of upcoming investments will be allocated.

The initiative aims to support vocational schools and skilled workers in the essential task of training future professionals for the green transition.

Specifically, the initiative will increase funding over several years for vocational programs in key areas such as industry, construction, transport, and agriculture.

“The proposal acknowledges the importance of providing vocational students with modern equipment and instructors who are up-to-date with the latest technologies and methods.

This is essential to ensure that graduates from vocational schools are prepared for the production and work tasks of tomorrow,” says Nanna Højlund, Deputy Chairperson of FH.

The initiative allocates approximately DKK 300 million over the next few years for new equipment and skills development. The government proposes that the funds be distributed through the schools’ per capita grants to avoid the need for schools to apply for and manage individual grants.

Additionally, three selected vocational schools, yet to be named, will be designated as “climate vocational schools” and will receive targeted funds to develop and create robust learning environments.

Crucial role in the green transition

“Vocational education has a crucial role in the green transition. Therefore, it is important that all schools can draw on the three schools that will now become beacons and develop green competencies and knowledge.

This model, which we know from knowledge centers, allows teachers and schools to tap into expertise and develop new curricula and materials,” says Nanna Højlund.
